Currently Mages have 12 major glyphs at there disposal that number goes up dramatically to 22 when we all hit northrend. Here is a link to our current glyphs. Mage lvl 70 glyphs
I would like to look at each glyph individually so we can all decide what is best for the next 2 weeks and then look at the future of glyphs. Mage lvl 70+ glyphs
- Glyph of arcane explosion reduces the cost of the spell by 10%. 100% garbage for leveling and for raiding at this point.
- Glyph of arcane missles. For those of you arcane mages out there this could be ok but eating up a major slot for 5 yards this feels more like a minor glyph. Comparing it to priest channeled spells they get a damage increase but loose there slow on mind flay. I would personally stay away from this glyph
- Glyph of arcane power. 3 secs longer on arcane power. That is 1 maybe two extra casts in a raid depending on what you are casting. For arcane mages this is a maybe.
- Glyph of Blink ABSOLUTE waste when leveling or raiding in our current content. it can have some pvp advantages but it still does not put our blink out side of a good warrior to insta charge us.
- Glyph of evocation. This is a pretty cool glyph for leveling don’t have to stop to eat and could also be beneficial in pvp if you are on a all dps team. This glyph is situational at best.
- Glyph of frost nova: We still break on crits but this does allow you to normally get 1 extra hit in before it breaks. I am leveling frost and this glyph will probably go in and out of my book to test it out.
- Glyph of ice armor pointless to take up a major slot with this glyph for leveling or for pve at all make 0 sense. You pvp’ers out there may find a use for it but in the grind to level 80 and my first days in naxx you wont see me in this glyph ever.
- Glyph of ice block: This is a fun glyph it has a very gimmick use. I will probably use it for leveling till i get something better. On a pvp server this is one of those things that my just save your ass.
- Glyph of icy veins. This is a easy pick. We get a extra trinket when ever we pop icy veins. Again pvp server leveling you will find me using this glyph alot.
- Glyph of improved schorch: For fire mages this is nice. Allows you to get the debuff up in 2 cast instead of 5 and on trash it alows you to get at least 3 out of 5 up. It will be in my pve fire spec glyph book but other than that it is a somewhat wasted glyph slot
- Glyph of mage armor. At level 70 this is a joke it is not needed for level 70 raiding did a couple boss in black temple and with molten armor up i never used a mana gem a pot or even my evocation. Not saying this isn’t going to change on our way to 80 and at endgame level 80 but for now don’t waste your money on this glyph we have way better tools to get mana back at this point.
- Mana gem. 10% more back on mana gem. Again if you are running short on mana you are probably doing something wrong but if you need it go for it.
Now to show the 10 we will be getting as we level in north rend
- Glyph of Fire Blast 50% crit on a stunned or immobilized target pretty nice not sure if i would take it as a major slot tho
- Glyph of Fireball increases crit by 5% but removes the dot. This one will need to be tested but sounds very nice as long it does not mess with our ignites.
- Glyph of Frostbolt 5% more damage but removes the slowing effect. This will be very nice for those of us that would like to be able to pve at 80 as frost. i wouldn’t take it before then.
- Glyph of Frostfire 2% plus damage and 2% crit. If this becomes our primary nuke this sounds very nice.
- Glyph of ice lance increased distance by 5 yards great for pvp but not much else.
- Glyph of invisibility 5sec longer invisibility. I have cast this spell like 5 times. Takes so long to become invisible i will never use this glyph at all
- Glyph of molten armor 2% more crit. As long as we are not having mana issues at level 80 this will be very nice
- Glyph of polymorph very cool for 5 mans or in raids were you have dumb dps. This removes all the dots on a target. Probably more use full for pvp when you have to change targets and it is all dotted up.
- Glyph of remove curse makes target immune to curses for 4 sec. Probably nice for pvp but not seeing much decursing so far in wrath but you never know.
- Glyph of water elemental 30s off the cool down for your water elemental. Frost players will almost certainly take this one to maximise dps.
