First off let me say I love cooking in wow. It brings all kinds of great little buffs or just allows you to not have to buy food and water. I do how ever have a few gripes with the new system. It is better than the pure luck of getting the recipe you want when you want it but it is highly frustrating in the sense that it takes so long to do it. I got all the bop recipes in BC in about a month. To get all the northrend recipes it is going to take me twice that long.
The fault i find in this is that the recipes are bought with Dalaran cooking awards. This is fine if you also didn’t have to use dalaran cooking awards to get northern spices to cook up endgame recipes and to also level your cooking. if you happen to be a hard core raider then 10 food min a day sometimes isn’t enough. Now you can make the lesser versions of the food but if you are banging up against hard content that sometimes isn’t enough. Now i do understand the content is easy sauce right now i am talking about the content to come.
Next part of my rant EVERYTHING IS GREEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i have been cooking a min of 10 per day and i am lucky to get one point in cooking this is just total bullshit. I know i can make all the good recipes for my self but it is a completest part of me screaming for me to get to 450 but it just isn’t happening.
END RANT…….
There actually is some real beauty in the system. I know cooking was “easy” in TBC and somewhat in Vanilla, but it is one of the most powerful professions there is in the game. Food is the consumable used most.
Adding the new foods and making them a lot easier to access is terrific. Forcing the use of Northern Spices is kind of annoying but it makes it so chef’s either do dailies or they pay money to cook. The foods are not relligated to “fishing = stamina food” either.
In TBC I had to fish for an hour a day just to get raid food. Now I can go kill a few mobs and get raid food for an entire group with a feast. If I do not want to fish I do not have to.
Switching from the Something+Spirit to Something+Stamina model was phenomenal.
I know you are just like me and are tired of cooking 2 stacks of food for 2 or 3 points. But look at it this way. Things are worse in other games. Hell in TBC skinning and fishing were a heck of a lot worse. At least we get to use what we make.
